- Monday, June 25th, 2018
The Center for Gifted Studies at WKU hosted 118 campers for the 36th annual Summer Camp for Academically Talented Middle School Students (SCATS) from June 10 to 22.
Located on the campus of WKU, SCATS provides enhanced learning opportunities for academically talented sixth, seventh and eighth grade students.
This summer, young people from 37 Kentucky school districts, 15 Kentucky private schools, and 6 states participated in 22 challenging and fun courses.
Students chose the four classes they attended daily at the two-week camp. The Center offered a diverse curriculum encompassing music, science, art, math, history, and acting with classes including Around Russia in 10 Days, Clowning, Graphic Design, Theme Park Development, and Solving the World’s Problems one Challenge at a Time.
Outside the classroom, residential campers participated in a variety of engaging activities, such as musical performances, sports matches, dances, and a talent show.
The dates for the 37rd year of SCATS are June 9 to June 21, 2019 and the application will be available on The Center for Gifted Studies Website.
