• Cycles of Life and Learning at WKU’s Green River Preserve: Along a remarkable stretch of land that’s more than 1,600 acres in size, you’ll find no shortage of habitats, including caves, uplands, limestone glades and the Green River. This is the Green River Preserve, which is owned and managed by WKU. The land is undoubtedly beautiful, but its significance extends far beyond aesthetics. The Green River Preserve’s varied habitats, foliage and animals make it one of the most important research sites in the world.
• WKU to celebrate Homecoming ‘To the Hill and Beyond’ Oct. 25-28: WKU will celebrate Homecoming 2018 “To the Hill and Beyond” Oct. 25-28. The Toy Story-themed celebration will include pep rallies, reunions, concerts, award presentations, hall of fame inductions, a parade, the crowning of the Homecoming queen and the football game between the Hilltoppers and Florida International. • View from the Hill: White Squirrel Weather mobile classroom: WKU’s meteorology program is taking its forecasting skills on location and helping with emergency management in the process. WKU's Amy Bingham has more on the White Squirrel Weather mobile classroom in the View from the Hill.
• Veterans Upward Bound at WKU accepting new students: Attention U.S. Military Veterans, Guardsmen and Reservists: Veterans Upward Bound at WKU is accepting new students.
• WKU Public Radio Weekday Newscast Schedule: Tune into WKU Public Radio for national and international news from NPR, and local newscasts every half hour during Morning Edition (4-9 a.m. Central), and All Things Considered (3-6 p.m. Central), as well as local news features and interviews produced by the WKU news staff. WKU's Public Radio can be heard on WKYU-FM (88.9) in Bowling Green/Glasgow; WDCL-FM (89.7) in Somerset/Campbellsville; WKPB-FM (88.9) in Henderson/Owensboro; WKUE-FM (90.9) in Elizabethtown/Bardstown; and online at http://www.wkyufm.org/

• Women’s golf: Joiner, Lady Toppers in Title Contention at USA Intercollegiate: Junior Mary Joiner and the WKU Lady Topper Golf team are back in the championship chase with a series of career and program lows in their first event of the season. Joiner is just three strokes back of the individual lead with one round to play at South Alabama's USA Intercollegiate, while the Lady Toppers are just four strokes out of first place in the team standings.
• Men’s golf: Lo's Career-Low Tourney Score Leads Tops in Louisville: Redshirt junior Linus Lo led the way for the WKU Hilltopper Golf team Sunday, finishing in a tie for 15th place at the Louisville Cardinals Challenge. Lo shot an even-par 71 in the final round at the par-71, 7,101-yard University of Louisville Golf Club to finish with a career-low 211 (68-72-71) total. As a team, WKU tied for seventh with a three-day total of 859 (277-294-288) – less than five strokes from being one of the program's top-10 tallies in the last 30-plus years.
• Football: Louisville Rallies Past WKU, 20-17: Dae Williams rushed for a pair of 1-yard touchdowns in the fourth quarter, including the go-ahead score with 5:01 remaining, as Louisville rallied from a 14-0 deficit to beat in-state rival WKU 20-17. Next: WKU at Ball State at 2 p.m. Saturday.
• Volleyball: WKU Claims Second-Straight Tournament, Cerino Named MVP: For the second-consecutive weekend, WKU Volleyball claimed its home tournament title after posting a 2-1 weekend record and owning the best set record percentage between the field's three tied teams. Sophia Cerino earned her first-ever All-Tournament Team nod with MVP recognition while Rachel Anderson landed on the All-Tournament Team as well. WKU closed weekend action with a five-set win over NIU to improve to 8-5 on the season. Next: WKU vs. Cincinnati at 6 p.m. Tuesday at Diddle Arena.
• Soccer: WKU Falls 1-0 in Overtime at Southern Miss: In its 2018 C-USA opener on Sunday afternoon, WKU fell 1-0 on a Southern Miss golden goal in overtime at the USM Soccer Complex. Next: WKU at Louisiana Tech on Sept. 23.
• Baseball: Brown, Taylor Help WKU Split Fall Scrimmage Doubleheader: WKU Baseball held on for a 6-5 victory in Game 2 of a fall scrimmage doubleheader against Louisville on Saturday afternoon. In all, the Hilltoppers and Cardinals played two six-inning games at Jim Patterson Stadium, with the hosts taking Game 1 by a score of 7-4.
• Cross country: WKU Distance Squads Wrap Up Commodore Classic: In its third trip to the Volunteer State in as many weeks, WKU Cross Country used this weekend's Vanderbilt Commodore Classic as a training opportunity to prepare for upcoming competitions. Freshman Heather Whitlow ran a 22:04.8 5K mark to finish 169th in the field of nearly 200 competitors. Whitlow has led the Lady Toppers in all three races of her debut campaign in the red and white.
• Men’s basketball: Countdown to Tipoff - 100 Days of Hilltopper Basketball History: The 100^th season of WKU Hilltopper Basketball will tip off in November. WKU Athletics is treating fans to unique moments and interesting history from Hilltopper Basketball leading up to the start of the 2018-19 season.

WKU in the News

• Shanley shines as WKU tries to continue to move the offense forward: WKU may have found the offensive spark it has been looking for – and it may be coming in one of the more unexpected names on the roster. Davis Shanley played quarterback for the Hilltoppers after coming off the bench in the first quarter Saturday at Louisville. He helped stake his team to a 14-0 lead, then put them in position for a game-tying field goal that eventually sailed wide as time expired. Still, WKU perhaps found an answers to its struggles on offense with a young, slim kid from Georgia.

WKU Alumni

• At 1,500 feet in the sky, 4 WKU alumni are saving lives as part of the Air Evac Lifeteam: In 1985, a group of citizens in West Plains, Mo., established the Air Evac Lifeteam with the goal of providing air medical transportation to remote and rural areas of the Missouri Ozark region. Now, 33 years later, the Air Evac Lifeteam is the world’s largest air ambulance service with more than 130 bases across 15 states. Each team is made up of a pilot, a nurse and a paramedic. They transport critically ill or injured patients from hospitals or accident scenes to hospitals via helicopter. Base 62 is located right here in Bowling Green, where four WKU alumni work in various roles.
