• Samantha Vaughn Named 2018 Confucius Institute People to People Award Honoree: Samantha Vaughn, a senior at The Gatton Academy of Mathematics and Science and South Oldham High School, has been named a 2018 People to People Award honoree by the Confucius Institute.
• Dr. Marla Zubel named 2018-2019 Robert Penn Warren Fellow: Dr. Marla Zubel, assistant professor of English, has been named Fellow of the Robert Penn Warren Center at WKU for the 2018-2019 academic year.
• WKU Alumna’s work to air on PBS World Channel: A 2018 WKU alumna and photojournalist Brittany Greeson joined a team of four other young journalists during the fall of 2017 in an effort to explore the issues that divide us and the stories that can bring us together for “Crossing the Divide,” an initiative of the GroundTruth Project. The half-hour documentary, which will air on PBS World Channel on Sept. 24, follows the team as they cross the country documenting the daily lives of average Americans.
• Folk Studies Faculty Member Helps Run 4th Annual Wild Ricing Camp for Native American Medical Students: The weekend of Sept. 8-9, Folk Studies Assistant Professor Dr. Tim Frandy worked with Anishinaabe artist and educator Wayne Valliere and University of Wisconsin-Madison’s Native American Center for Health Professions (NACHP) Director, Danielle Yancey, to run the 4th annual Wild Ricing Camp for NACHP students, staff, and families. NACHP’s mission is to improve Native American health care by increasing the number of Native American Health professionals working in Native American communities.
• WKU Public Radio Weekday Newscast Schedule: Tune into WKU Public Radio for national and international news from NPR, and local newscasts every half hour during Morning Edition (4-9 a.m. Central), and All Things Considered (3-6 p.m. Central), as well as local news features and interviews produced by the WKU news staff. WKU's Public Radio can be heard on WKYU-FM (88.9) in Bowling Green/Glasgow; WDCL-FM (89.7) in Somerset/Campbellsville; WKPB-FM (88.9) in Henderson/Owensboro; WKUE-FM (90.9) in Elizabethtown/Bardstown; and online at http://www.wkyufm.org/

• Women’s golf: Joiner Earns Sixth Career C-USA Golfer of the Week Award: Following the best 54-hole performance in program history, WKU Lady Topper junior golfer Mary Joiner was named Conference USA Women's Co-Golfer of the Week on Wednesday. This is the sixth C-USA weekly honor of Joiner's career. She won three in a five-week span last spring as a sophomore. Dating back to last season, Joiner has won four of the last seven Golfer of the Week awards.
• Football: Practice Report: WKU Football concluded practice on Wednesday evening, preparing for the team's second-straight road trip on Saturday, Sept. 22, as the Hilltoppers make the trip up I-65 to Muncie, Ind. to take on Ball State. The game, set for a 2 p.m. CT kick off, can be seen nationally on ESPN3 with Jim Barbar and Mark Herrmann on the call.
• Men’s basketball: Countdown to Tipoff - 100 Days of Hilltopper Basketball History: The 100^th season of WKU Hilltopper Basketball will tip off in November. WKU Athletics is treating fans to unique moments and interesting history from Hilltopper Basketball leading up to the start of the 2018-19 season.

• WKU graduate Gerron Hurt wins 'MasterChef' with southern-inspired dishes: Halfway through the two-hour finale of Fox's "MasterChef" season nine, Nashville teacher and WKU graduate Gerron Hurt had a feeling he'd be headed home with the coveted "MasterChef" title and the $250,000 grand prize.  "I am a very humble person, but when I got to the finale, I walked into the studio feeling  really confident about what I was cooking," Hurt told the Courier Journal. "I gave it my all. I knew that everything I had learned up until this point had to end up on the plate." More: Nashville teacher Gerron Hurt takes the MasterChef victory
• WKU students urge classmates to go vote: With Election Day fast approaching, WKU students are urging their classmates to register to vote so they can support candidates seeking state and local offices and make their voices heard.
• Eric D. Yates Memorial Run takes place for the ninth consecutive year: The ninth annual Eric D. Yates Memorial Run was held Wednesday. It's a 5-K meant to honor the life and sacrifice made by former WKU Army ROTC member Eric Yates.
• Tight end Fourtenbary emerging as another young weapon for the WKU offense: Among one of WKU’s many weapons emerging on the offensive side of the ball is a long-haired, Alabama native intent on quietly doing his job and doing it to the best of his ability. His play through 15 career games speaks for itself. And his play through three games this year seems to further indicate Kyle Fourtenbary is poised for a breakout season.
