• Herald, Talisman finalists for three national Pacemaker Awards: The College Heights Herald and the Talisman are finalists for three national Pacemaker Awards in 2018 – College Heights Herald – newspaper Pacemaker finalist; WKUHerald.com – online Pacemaker finalist; and WKUTalisman.com – online Pacemaker finalist. In addition, 16 students on the staffs of the Herald and Talisman are finalists for ACP national individual awards in nine categories.

• University College Grants Research/Creativity Award to Professor for Creative Works: In spring of 2018, University College awarded Dr. Cheryl Hopson the Faculty Award for Research/Creativity within her department of Diversity and Community Studies. Chosen for outstanding contributions in her field, Dr. Hopson is a self-identifying poet scholar; she has written four published journal articles, a poetry collection titled Fragile, and published 11 poems in various publications.
• Appointments open for annual WKU vs. MTSU Blood Drive: WKU and Middle Tennessee State University will continue their annual blood drive competition this year to collect donations for the American Red Cross. In Bowling Green, campus and community members can schedule appointments to donate from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Oct. 29-31 at the Preston Health and Activities Center. • WKU Public Radio Weekday Newscast Schedule: Tune into WKU Public Radio for national and international news from NPR, and local newscasts every half hour during Morning Edition (4-9 a.m. Central), and All Things Considered (3-6 p.m. Central), as well as local news features and interviews produced by the WKU news staff. WKU's Public Radio can be heard on WKYU-FM (88.9) in Bowling Green/Glasgow; WDCL-FM (89.7) in Somerset/Campbellsville; WKPB-FM (88.9) in Henderson/Owensboro; WKUE-FM (90.9) in Elizabethtown/Bardstown; and online at http://www.wkyufm.org/

• Athletics: Micatrotto Family Makes $1 Million Gift to Support WKU Athletics: WKU has received the largest outright gift from a former student-athlete with a gift of $1 million from Joe and Sunshine Micatrotto of Las Vegas, Nev. The Micatrotto gift includes support for capital projects, the WKU Football and Volleyball programs and the WKU Opportunity Fund.
• Volleyball: Rachel Anderson Selected as Senior CLASS Award Candidate: WKU Volleyball's Rachel Anderson has been named as one of 30 NCAA Women's Volleyball Senior CLASS Award candidates. To be eligible for the award, a student-athlete must be classified as an NCAA Division I senior and have notable achievements in four areas of excellence: community, classroom, character and competition.
• Men’s basketball: Countdown to Tipoff - 100 Days of Hilltopper Basketball History: The 100^th season of WKU Hilltopper Basketball will tip off in November. WKU Athletics is treating fans to unique moments and interesting history from Hilltopper Basketball leading up to the start of the 2018-19 season.

• Stickwork at WKU begins: WKU has a new sculpture coming to the Hill. Patrick Dougherty, an award-winning artist from North Carolina, began the harvest stage for his stickwork project on Monday. More: Award-winning artist to create sculptures out of sticks at WKU
• WKU swears in new police officer, only female police officer on the force: WKU’s police department swore in a new officer on Monday morning. Melissa Bailey took her oath inside President Caboni's office on campus surrounded by family, friends, and fellow officers. She is currently the only female police officer at WKU. • WKU grads create scholarship for Owensboro, Henderson grads: A couple who are WKU graduates have established a scholarship for Henderson County and Owensboro high schools that will be awarded for the first time in the spring of 2019 for the 2019-20 school year.
• WKU to host blacksmiths with Hammer-In: Some of Kentucky’s best knife makers, gunsmiths and metalworkers will come together at WKU this weekend for its third annual Hammer-In.
