Noted author, teacher, and mother of gifted children, Lisa Van Gemert will present at the 2018 Berta Seminar on identifying and addressing the social and emotional needs of gifted students. The event will take place November 9, 2018 at the Knicely Conference Center from 8:30 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. CT. The conference center is located at 2355 Nashville Road, Bowling Green, KY. EILA credit is available. Thanks to a generous gift from Kathleen and Vince Berta, this event is free to attend and open to the public. 

Van Gemert’s work focuses on the question of whether students care if their cognitive needs are met if their social and emotional needs are not. She will explore how one can identify and meet the social and emotional needs of the gifted effectively and successfully. She will share practical strategies to help gifted students thrive.

Lisa Van Gemert is the author of Perfectionism: A Practical Guide to Managing “Never Good Enough and the force behind Gifted Guru (giftedguru.com), explains that she “translates research into language and strategies everyone can use to improve their performance, efficacy, and enjoyment in what they do.” A teacher and a mother of gifted children (and a gifted person herself), Lisa is a frequent conference keynote speaker, facilitator of educational and business professional development, expert consult to television shows, and author of articles published in magazines and peer-reviewed journals. 

Established by The Center for Gifted Studies in 2004 thanks to a generous donation from Kathleen and Vince Berta, the Berta Seminars brings nationally and internationally known experts in to provide sessions to parents of gifted children and professional learning to educators and other interested parties to learn how to better address the social and emotional needs of gifted young people in and out of the classroom. The Bertas understand that the social and emotional needs of gifted children often go unaddressed and that meetings those needs requires both parents and teachers. The Berta Seminars was established to help meet this need.
