- George and CJ Nichols named Philanthropists of the Year: On National Philanthropy Day (Nov. 15), George (’83) and CJ Nichols (’82) have been named the 2018 WKU Philanthropists of the Year. “We are honored and humbled to be recognized as the Philanthropists of the Year,” said George Nichols. “We know that so many others have done so much more than we have even thought about. For WKU to consider our efforts worthy of such an honor makes us proud. We accept it on behalf of all the people in the WKU family who are giving back.”
- Thursday’s snowfall a rare occurrence: Bowling Green received 0.2″ of snow Thursday which is only the second time measurable snow has occurred on Nov. 15, according to Dr. Greg Goodrich, WKU Meteorology Program leader. The previous measurable snow on Nov. 15 occurred in 1906 when 4.5″ fell. The max temperature of 36°F was the fourth coldest since 1893 and was the coldest max temperature for the date since 1940. Receiving measurable snowfall prior to mid-November is rare in Bowling Green and has only happened nine times, most recently on Halloween of 1993.
- A Century Since the Armistice: GREAT WAR IS BROUGHT TO AN END: Greatest Struggle in World’s History Ceases With Signing of Armistice Terms. So declared the now century-old news clipping of November 11, 1918 that Bowling Green’s Martha Potter pasted into her scrapbook. As we have previously blogged, the Armistice was met with worldwide joy and relief. Finally, an end to “1,567 days of horror,” read the Associated Press story, “during which virtually the whole civilized world has been convulsed.” More: WKU Libraries Blog
