WKU News

• Minton Hall will remain closed for spring semester: WKU will delay the reopening of Minton Hall until fall 2019. The residence hall closed on November 12, 2018, when common mold was discovered within the building. Remediation included replacement of all room ceiling tiles, the addition of venting tiles, new air filters, and the repairs and balancing of critical air handling equipment. During an inspection this week, ahead of the planned reopening, WKU staff identified additional work to be completed which expands the scope of the project. These additional items include replacement of porous tiles and possible replacement of windows to mitigate future issues. More: Additional information for students
• Student Success Summit begins this morning: WKU will host the Student Success Summit today at Downing Student Union. Registration begins at 8:30 a.m. The goal of the one-day conference is to provide a unique opportunity for faculty, staff and administrators to discuss best practices and collaboratively develop working strategies related to advising, retention, engagement and student success. The keynote address by Kristen Renn will begin at 12:30 p.m. in the DSU Auditorium. More: Parking information.
• Spring 2019 Parking and Transportation: Check out updates for the parking and transit operations for the spring semester -- Housing parking regulations resume at 4:30 p.m. Sunday (Jan. 20); normal parking regulations and full transit services resume at 7:15 a.m. Tuesday (Jan. 22).
• WKU Public Radio Weekday Newscast Schedule: Tune into WKU Public Radio for national and international news from NPR, and local newscasts every half hour during Morning Edition (4-9 a.m. Central), and All Things Considered (3-6 p.m. Central), as well as local news features and interviews produced by the WKU news staff. WKU's Public Radio can be heard on WKYU-FM (88.9) in Bowling Green/Glasgow; WDCL-FM (89.7) in Somerset/Campbellsville; WKPB-FM (88.9) in Henderson/Owensboro; WKUE-FM (90.9) in Elizabethtown/Bardstown; and online at http://www.wkyufm.org/

• Women’s basketball: Lady Tops Kick Off Florida Road Swing at FIU This Morning: A winner in all four games of its recent homestand, WKU will take its show on the road for the first time in conference play today, squaring off against FIU for a 10 a.m. (CT) tipoff inside Ocean Bank Convocation Center.
• Men’s basketball:  Tops Play Long-Awaited First C-USA Home Game vs. FIU Tonight: WKU Hilltopper Basketball begins a stretch of three home games in five days – and five games in 10 days overall – against FIU at 7 CT tonight at E.A. Diddle Arena. The game will air on beIN SPORTS. More: Event parking
• Cross Country: Four Former Hilltoppers & Lady Toppers Named to 2018 KTCCCA Hall of Fame Class: Four former Hilltopper greats were inducted into the Kentucky Track and Cross Country Coaches Association Hall of Fame as Ronda Boyd-Parks, Camille Forrester Estes, David Jaggers and Sam Seemes were recognized for their accomplishments and contributions in the running world. In total, four coaches and 10 athletes made up the 2018 induction class.
• Baseball: Countdown to First Pitch - 100 Days of Hilltopper History: As WKU prepares for the 100th Season of Hilltopper Baseball, WKU Athletics is treating fans to unique moments and interesting history from Hilltopper Baseball, leading up to First Pitch at Nick Denes Field on February 15. • Elgedawy still adapting while carrying responsibility for Lady Toppers: Raneem Elgedawy has no time or place for a comfort zone. Culturally or fundamentally, much has been asked of Elgedawy in her second season with the WKU women’s basketball program.
• The School Dedicated To Longrifle Building: Knowledge is a fleeting thing if steps aren’t taken to preserve it. Whether it’s building the pyramids or a family recipe, if knowledge isn’t passed on to subsequent generations, it is eventually forgotten and lost. Thirty-four years ago, the passionate desire to preserve the 18th century gun-making techniques, by which American longrifles were handcrafted, led to the creation of an extraordinary training seminar by WKU Professor Terry Leeper and master gunmakers Wallace Gusler and Jon Bivins.
