WKU News
- WKU Forensics Team wins first tournaments of spring semester: WKU’s Forensics Team traveled to Saint Louis, Missouri, and DeKalb, Illinois, to take part in three tournaments the weekend of Jan. 26-27.
- Institute for Rural Health receives grant from Delta Dental of Kentucky: The Institute for Rural Health, part of WKU’s College of Health and Human Services, has received a $20,000 grant from Delta Dental of Kentucky’s Foundation.
- WKU CCSJ to spotlight project-based learning in 'Social Justice Salons' series: The WKU Center for Citizenship & Social Justice will host the first Spring 2019 lecture in its “Social Justice Salons” series from 4 p.m. to 5 p.m. Feb. 19 at Downing Student Union, room 2123. The February lecture will be led by Dr. Tim Evans of the Folk Studies Department. Dr. Evans will present “Education and Community: Service Learning as a High Impact Practice.”
- WKU CCSJ accepting applications for Scholars in Service scholarships: To encourage students at WKU to apply their knowledge in communities, the WKU Center for Citizenship & Social Justice is accepting applications for Scholars in Service, a scholarship program awarding $15,000 a year to publicly engaged students.
- Dr. Allie McCreary publishes article in Current Issues in Tourism: Dr. Allie McCreary, assistant professor in Recreation Administration, recently published an article in the journal Current Issues in Tourism documenting how to use social media data to better understand visitors' image (the components of a destination that visitors save and/or share with family and friends).
- WKU Public Radio Weekday Newscast Schedule: Tune into WKU Public Radio for national and international news from NPR, and local newscasts every half hour during Morning Edition (4-9 a.m. Central), and All Things Considered (3-6 p.m. Central), as well as local news features and interviews produced by the WKU news staff. WKU's Public Radio can be heard on WKYU-FM (88.9) in Bowling Green/Glasgow; WDCL-FM (89.7) in Somerset/Campbellsville; WKPB-FM (88.9) in Henderson/Owensboro; WKUE-FM (90.9) in Elizabethtown/Bardstown; and online at http://www.wkyufm.org/

- Men’s basketball: Bassey's Big Week on Boards Yields Fifth C-USA Freshman Honor: After a strong week with three games in six days, WKU center Charles Bassey was named Conference USA Men's Basketball Freshman of the Week on Monday. This is the fifth Freshman of the Week award this season for the 6-foot-11, 245-pound native of Lagos, Nigeria, and his first since Dec. 31. Bassey averaged 15.7 points and 14 rebounds in WKU's three games last week, including two road contests. WKU is back home this week for two matchups, starting against UTSA at 7 p.m. CT Thursday at E.A. Diddle Arena.
- Baseball: Countdown to First Pitch - 100 Days of Hilltopper History: As WKU prepares for the 100th Season of Hilltopper Baseball, WKU Athletics is treating fans to unique moments and interesting history from Hilltopper Baseball, leading up to First Pitch at Nick Denes Field on February 15. More: Fan voting open for All Century Team.
