• The Center for Gifted Studies Represented at Proclamation Signing Ceremony for Gifted Education Month in Kentucky: Dr. Julia Link Roberts, Mahurin Professor of Gifted Studies at WKU and the Executive Director of The Center for Gifted Studies and The Carol Martin Gatton Academy of Mathematics and Science in Kentucky, presided over the Proclamation Signing Ceremony designating February as Gifted Education Month in Kentucky on February 6. Hosted by The Kentucky Association for Gifted Education (KAGE), the ceremony brought together state legislators, representatives from gifted education advocacy groups, teachers, and students in the Capitol Rotunda in Frankfort.
• View from the Hill: WKU students attend Sundance Film Festival: The Sundance Film Festival in Park City, Utah, is the ultimate gathering of original storytellers. For five of the last six years, WKU students have gotten to attend. WKU's Amy Bingham has more in the View from the Hill.
• WKU Public Radio Weekday Newscast Schedule: Tune into WKU Public Radio for national and international news from NPR, and local newscasts every half hour during Morning Edition (4-9 a.m. Central), and All Things Considered (3-6 p.m. Central), as well as local news features and interviews produced by the WKU news staff. WKU's Public Radio can be heard on WKYU-FM (88.9) in Bowling Green/Glasgow; WDCL-FM (89.7) in Somerset/Campbellsville; WKPB-FM (88.9) in Henderson/Owensboro; WKUE-FM (90.9) in Elizabethtown/Bardstown; and online at http://www.wkyufm.org/

Campus Announcements

• WKU T/TAS Reacts to the Death of The Father of Head Start, Dr. Edward Zigler: Edward F. Zigler, widely regarded as the “Father of Head Start,” died in his sleep on Feb. 8  at his home in North Haven, Connecticut. Dr. Zigler was 88 years old. WKU Training and Technical Assistance Services Executive Director J. Christopher Watkins reflects, “As one of the original architects of the Head Start program, Dr. Zigler and his ‘whole child approach’ gave all of us in this field of study and service a vision that truly bordered on precognition.”

• Softball: Hot Start Leads Tops to 7-3 Victory Over South Alabama to Close Weekend: WKU Softball took a quick 7-0 lead after its first trip to the plate on Sunday and never looked back as the squad claimed a 7-3 victory over South Alabama. The Hilltoppers finished 4-1 on the weekend to match the program's best start since the 2015 campaign. Next: WKU will welcome Western Illinois to the WKU Softball Complex for a three-game series beginning Saturday.
• Men’s golf: Tops Set to Compete in Mobile Sports Authority Intercollegiate: WKU Hilltopper Golf competes in its first team event of the spring this week at South Alabama's Mobile Sports Authority Intercollegiate. The Hilltoppers will be 1 of 15 programs participating today and Tuesday at the par-72, 7,212-yard Magnolia Grove Crossings Golf Course in Mobile, Ala.
• Men’s basketball: Hilltoppers Fight to 62-59 Road Win at North Texas: WKU Hilltopper Basketball had been in this situation before and come up short. This time, the Hilltoppers proved they're maturing with a major road win for their absent coach. WKU (15-10, 8-4 Conference USA) built a 15-point halftime lead at North Texas but had to hold on in the second half, scrapping its way to a 62-59 road victory at The Super Pit. Next: WKU vs. Middle Tennessee at 7 p.m. Thursday at Diddle Arena. More: Bassey Named 1 of 10 Candidates for Kareem Abdul-Jabbar Award
• Women’s basketball: Late Run Costs Lady Toppers in 76-67 Loss to North Texas: A 21-1 second-half run by North Texas was the difference on Saturday afternoon inside E.A. Diddle Arena as WKU was unable to hold off the Mean Green's late charge in a 76-67 defeat. Next: WKU (14-11, 8-3 C-USA) at Middle Tennessee at 6:30 p.m. Thursday.
• Track & Field: WKU Wraps Up Regular Season at Music City Challenge: WKU Track and Field wrapped up its regular-season slate on Saturday at the Vanderbilt-hosted Music City Challenge. The Red and White recorded eight top-10 performances against the stout field of competition. "We saw several improvements today and look forward to the Conference USA Championship next week," head coach Erik Jenkins stated.
• Tennis: WKU Falls to Ranked Competition at North Texas: Lady Topper Tennis competed against No. 69 Singles Tamuna Kutubidze and No. 19 Doubles Kutubidze and Maria Konokova on Saturday in its 7-0 loss to Conference USA opponent North Texas (5-3, 2-0 C-USA). Next: WKU (0-5, 0-1 C-USA) is set to play at Lipscomb on Friday and host its first home match in two seasons on Saturday.
• Baseball: Countdown to First Pitch - 100 Days of Hilltopper History: As WKU prepares for the 100th Season of Hilltopper Baseball, WKU Athletics is treating fans to unique moments and interesting history from Hilltopper Baseball, leading up to First Pitch at Nick Denes Field on February 15.

• Spencer’s Coffee House hosts special WKU art exhibition: Spencer’s Coffee House is known for exactly that – their coffee. But there’s more than meets the eye with this java joint. Step inside the shop and you’ll see a variety of pieces of artwork covering the brick walls. The pictures that currently adorn the walls aren’t from professional artists, though. They were made by students of WKU’s Printmaking Club.
• Lone Star Rodeo brings western-style entertainment to Bowling Green: The Lone Star Rodeo Company, based out of Crofton, Kentucky, made its way to Bowling Green this weekend for the 70th Anniversary Lone Star Rodeo. The event brought hundreds to the WKU Ag Expo Center for some western-style entertainment.
