High school journalists honored at 39th annual ceremony

High school journalists from Kentucky, Tennessee and Indiana were recognized during the 39th annual Mark of Excellence awards ceremony March 1 at WKU.
Hosted by the School of Journalism & Broadcasting, the awards honor work produced by high school broadcast outlets and news publications. Students from 23 high school news outlets entered the 2019 contest.
WBHS 9 from Brentwood High School in Brentwood, Tennessee, was recognized as the Best High School Broadcast. The adviser is Ronnie Adcock.
On the Record from DuPont Manual High School in Louisville was recognized as the Best High School News Publication. The adviser is Liz Palmer.
Manual RedEye from DuPont Manual High School in Louisville was recognized as the Best High School News Website. The adviser is James Miller.
Brennan Crain, a senior at Barren County High School in Glasgow, was recognized as the Most Valuable Newspaper Staffer.
Lillian Farmer, a senior at Fern Creek High School in Louisville, was recognized as the Most Valuable Broadcast Team Member.
Brody Rexing, a senior at F.J. Reitz High School in Evansville, Indiana, was recognized as the Most Valuable Yearbook Staffer.

The ceremony also included a keynote presentation entitled “The Great Unknown” from Photojournalism Professor Tim Broekema.
