- Thursday, March 28th, 2019
WKU Student Publications has selected the four students who will lead its student-run divisions in the coming year:
Jeremy Chisenhall will be editor-in-chief of the College Heights Herald news organization for Fall 2019. Chisenhall is a junior from Kenton and is a journalism major with an economics minor. He currently is digital managing editor of the Herald. He will intern this summer for InsiderLouisville.com on a Student Publications fellowship.
Olivia Mohr will be editor-in-chief Talisman, WKU’s life and culture magazine and website, for 2019-20. Mohr is a senior from Nicholasville and is a journalism and English double-major with a creative writing concentration. She currently is writing co-editor for Talisman magazine. Mohr will intern this summer for the Jessamine Journal in her hometown.
Avari Stamps will be manager of Student Publications Advertising for Fall 2019. Stamps is a senior from Bowling Green and is a broadcast journalism and sales major. She currently is an account executive for Student Pubs Advertising.
Hayley Robb will be director of Cherry Creative, a specialty content agency, for 2019-20. Robb is a senior from Georgetown and is a journalism major. She currently is writing co-editor for Talisman magazine. Robb will intern this summer for C2 Strategic Communications in Louisville on a Student Publications fellowship.
The editors of the Herald and the Talisman were selected by the university’s Student Publications Committee, with 11 voting members representing students, faculty, professional staff, the School of Journalism & Broadcasting and the Kentucky Press Association. The leaders for Student Pubs Advertising and Cherry Creative were selected by the professional staff of WKU Student Publications.
“We have four very strong leaders for the coming year, and I’m excited about that,” said Chuck Clark, Student Publications director. “But I am even more excited that all of the candidates for the top leadership positions were well qualified, so that means we have great leaders waiting in the wings and continuing to grow for the future.”
Both the College Heights Herald and the Talisman are professional publications run by students.
The Herald is published weekly during the academic year, covering news, sports and features of interest to the WKU community. Its companion website, WKUHerald.com, provides live coverage all year, around the clock. The current editor is Evan Heichelbech, a Louisville senior who will graduate in December.
Talisman is a life and culture magazine published each semester, focusing on long-form storytelling and exceptional photography and design. Its website, WKUTalisman.com, is an eclectic collection of narratives, quizzes, videos and features, all geared toward the WKU community. The current editor is Hannah Good, an Alexandria senior who graduates in May.
Together, the publications have won 37 Pacemaker Awards, the nation’s highest honor for student-run publications at the collegiate level – 20 for Talisman and 17 for the Herald. Both publications are in the Associated Collegiate Press Hall of Fame.
Student Pubs Advertising generates revenue by selling ads for both publications, and provides 100 percent of the funding for operations of the College Heights Herald. The current advertising manager is Andrew Lee, an Owensboro senior who graduates in May.
Cherry Creative, launched in Fall 2018, is a specialty content agency that helps businesses and other clients reach the WKU community through the Herald and Talisman, and produces specialty publications and events. The current director is Nicole Childress, a Crestwood senior who graduates in May.
WKU Student Publications is housed in WKU’s Division of Academic Affairs but is independent from any academic program, department or college.
