WKU Civil Engineering students will be participating in regional competitions this weekend in Akron, Ohio.
Thursday and Friday (April 11-12), WKU students are competing in Surveying, Site Design, Balsawood Bridge, Concrete Frisbee, Geotechnical, Environmental and Technical Paper and Concrete Canoe competitions at the American Society of Civil Engineers Ohio Valley Student Conference.
The WKU concrete canoe team, led by the senior class, will compete for the opportunity to advance to the National Concrete Canoe Competition in June in Melbourne, Florida. WKU’s last national appearance was in 2016, when the team placed fourth, matching the highest placement of WKU, which was also accomplished in 2002 and 2006.
WKU’s AISC steel bridge team will compete Saturday (April 13) at the American Institute of Steel Construction competition. The steel bridge team completely changed its bridge design, featuring thin-walled steel tubing, and has a goal of attending national competition with the most recent attendance in 2016.
