The WKU Alumni Association announced that the 2019 Homecoming festivities will be celebrated with a throwback Decades of Spirit theme that celebrates WKU’s heritage and honors its 113 years of tradition. The Decades of Spirit theme was chosen by a committee of WKU alumni, students and staff.
“For some, ‘spirit’ simply means pride in your school,” said Ginny Hensley, WKU’s Director of Alumni Engagement. “At WKU, ‘spirit’ runs deeper, as our first President, Dr. Henry Hardin Cherry, coined the phrase ‘The Spirit Makes the Master,’ which still guides our campus community today. Homecoming brings together all members of the WKU family to celebrate the one thing we all have in common: the WKU Spirit.”
The Hilltoppers will face Charlotte in the Homecoming football game Oct. 19 at Houchens Industries-L.T. Smith Stadium, with kickoff currently scheduled for 3 p.m. Festival of Friends tailgating will begin at 10 a.m., and additional updates will be available on the Alumni Association website.
The WKU Alumni Association will have “decades” stickers available throughout Homecoming week.
“We encourage alumni to proudly wear their decade stickers throughout Homecoming weekend,” Hensley said. “We would also love to see our alumni wear decade-themed clothing that represents their era! We will celebrate the WKU of today and of all the Decades of Spirit throughout our history.”
