The annual Twice-Exceptional Students Seminar will host Dr. Susan Baum, a national expert on gifted young people with one or more disabilities. She will present “Strength-Based, Talent-Focused Strategies for 2e Students with Differently Wired Brains” on September 18, 2019. The event will be held from 8:30 am – 3:30 pm CT at the Knicely Conference Center located at 2355 Nashville Road in Bowling Green, Kentucky.

Topics will include understanding the ADHD/gifted, dyslexic/gifted, and autism spectrum/gifted brain wiring, how to create 2e friendly environments, and how to use strength-based and talent-focused instruction which is dually differentiated to accommodate both strengths and challenges.

Participants can register for the conference at wku.edu/gifted/twice_exceptional. EILA credit is available. This event is free to attend.

The event is open to parents, teachers, students, and school administrators interested in information and strategies on supporting these learners. Gifted students who also have another exceptionality such as a learning disability tend to fall between the cracks, with each exceptionality cancelling the other out so neither is recognized or only one becomes the focus of learning. Dr. Susan Baum is co-director of the International Center for Talent Development and Director of the National Institute for 2e Research and Development at Bridges Academy. Professor Emeritus from The College of New Rochelle and an international consultant, Susan has published in a multitude of books, chapters, and articles in the areas of twice-exceptional students, primary-aged gifted students, social and emotional factors affecting gifted students, and multiple intelligences. She served on the Board of Directors of the National Association for Gifted Children and is past president and co-founder of the Association for the Education of Gifted Underachieving Students. She is recipient of the Weinfeld Group’s Lifetime Achievement Award for her work in educating the twice-exceptional child.

This event is offered by The Center for Gifted Studies. The first seminar on the topic of twice-exceptional (2e) learners was held in September 2011. In the years since, The Center has provided world-renowned experts on the topic of 2e learners.
