CASHA Awarded Large Grant for Medicare and Medicaid Services
- Thursday, August 29th, 2019
Dr. Jason Crandall and the Center for Applied Science in Health & Aging (CASHA) team were awarded Civil Monetary Penalty reinvestment funds ($503,803.00) by the Tennessee Department of Health and Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services.
This 3-year CMP project will allow CASHA to partner with faculty and students from six Tennessee universities to implement Bingocize® in 40 Certified Nursing Facilities (CNFs). A lack of social engagement and physical activity often contributes to limited mobility and increased fall risk for CNF residents. Through the use of Bingocize®, there is potential to shift the culture of CNFs and improve functional health and quality of life for their residents.
There is also an opportunity for university students to gain the tools needed to positively impact the lives of older adults in long-term care. This is exciting news for the CASHA team and puts Dr. Crandall’s external funding over $2 million.
