The WKU Department of English welcomes its fifth class of students in the Master of Fine Arts in Creative Writing program this fall.

The incoming students are Hector Dominguez from Chicago, Illinois; Katie Hamblen from Nashville, Tennessee; Ian Haver from Holladay, Utah; Larissa Haynes from Bowling Green, Kentucky; Megan Hutchinson from South Point, Ohio; Jon Meyers from Chesterton, Indiana; and Brad Murff from Hendersonville, Tennessee.

"We're thrilled to welcome this group of seven MFA students to WKU,” said Dr. David Bell, Associate Professor of English and Director of Creative Writing Program. “They are a talented group, and we can't wait to see the creativity they bring to Cherry Hall and Bowling Green. I have no doubt they will build upon the successes of our previous MFA cohorts."

The six students are fully funded with teaching assistantships for the two-year, residential course of study.

The MFA in Creative Writing program prepares students for lives as writers of novels, short fiction, creative nonfiction, scripts and poetry and related pursuits such as teaching, literary editing and publishing. Students also complete a secondary concentration in literature, composition/rhetoric or teaching English as a second language in order to give them additional options for employment after graduation.

The program of study consists of 48 credit hours of graduate course work, culminating in comprehensive exams and the completion of a publishable creative thesis in fiction, poetry, scriptwriting or creative nonfiction.

“Our MFA program has been wildly successful in a very short period of time.” said Dr. Robert Hale, Professor of English and Department Head. “The investment we’ve made in student success has paid off with publications in prestigious journals, admission to top graduate schools, and exceptional employment.  We’re excited to have these fine writers join our fold and follow in the footsteps of our alumni.”
