As part of the 2019 Beta Alpha Psi International annual conference in Chicago, Illinois, junior accounting and financial planning double major Alea Luckett participated in its annual community-service consulting project called Project Run With It. 

Ms. Luckett began preparing for the project about a month before she even got to the conference. Each year, students are assigned a case study and given a problem to solve that assists local organizations.

At the conference, Ms. Luckett and her three partners from schools across the nation, created an app mock-up for LINK Unlimited Scholars, a Chicago-based not-for-profit group that connects African American youth with high potential to educational, cultural, and professional resources that help close the opportunity gap. The app would, “ultimately further their social trajectory and long-term economic stability,” Ms. Luckett said. “We developed app mock-ups and developed functions that fit with the specific requests of the organization, and offered reasonable ways to put the app into fruition. This included research about local grants and financial aid programs for not-for-profits.” The group worked about 36 hours to develop the app and to memorize a formal presentation showcasing their solution.

“The experience was like nothing I have ever participated in,” she said. “I was happy with the proposal my team and I put together and though stressful, Project Run With It was do worth doing.”
