The family of WKU senior Michaela Brangers of Elizabethtown was recognized Saturday as WKU’s 2019 Family of the Year.
Brangers, who is majoring in Mathematical Economics with minors in Finance and Applied Statistics, was joined by her parents, Chris and Christa Brangers, and siblings Gabe and Courtney Brangers, as part of WKU’s Parent and Family Weekend activities.
As the daughter of two WKU alumni, Brangers said her earliest Hilltopper memory came at age 4 on a shopping trip at the WKU Store to buy decorations for the family’s WKU-themed basement.
“My parents raised my siblings and me to always stick up for one another, to put our education first, and, above all, try our hardest in absolutely everything we do,” she said in her nomination essay. “They have encouraged us to try every sport and hobby imaginable, resulting in us having the ability to try, fail, try again, and succeed in those which we are passionate about. Needless to say, my parents are the best role models we could have asked for; I can only hope that one day I will have the opportunity to raise my own children just as they did.”
