The WKU Forensics Team won the team sweepstakes championships at both debate tournaments hosted by the University of Central Missouri in Warrensburg, Missouri, the weekend of Oct. 19-20.

The WKU team defeated 12 other schools, including Truman State University, Missouri State University and the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. Also, all eight members who competed over the weekend advanced to at least one elimination round.

Next weekend the team will split to travel to two locations, Illinois State University in Normal, Illinois, and Owensboro Community and Technical College.

Results from the 2019 Central Missouri “Mule”/Dale Carnegie Invitational Swing are as follows:

• Alex Rivera, a senior from Newton, Kansas, tournament champion in Lincoln-Douglas debate and fourth debate speaker at the Sunday tournament; third debate speaker and octofinalist in Lincoln-Douglas debate at the Saturday tournament.
• Tess Welch, a sophomore from Houston, Texas, top debate speaker and second in Lincoln-Douglas debate at the Saturday tournament; octofinalist in Lincoln-Douglas debate at the Sunday tournament.
• Symone Whalin, a junior from Sonora, tournament champion in junior varsity Lincoln-Douglas debate and third junior varsity debate speaker at the Sunday tournament; third junior varsity debate speaker and semifinalist in junior varsity Lincoln-Douglas debate at the Saturday tournament.
• Madelynn Einhorn, a sophomore from Oakwood, Ohio, second debate speaker and semifinalist in Lincoln-Douglas debate at the Saturday tournament; octofinalist in Lincoln-Douglas debate at the Sunday tournament.
• Anthony Survance, a senior from Louisville, quarterfinalist in Lincoln-Douglas debate at the Saturday tournament; octofinalist in Lincoln-Douglas debate at the Sunday tournament.
• Ben Hanson, a sophomore from Louisville, quarterfinalist in Lincoln-Douglas debate at the Saturday tournament; octofinalist in Lincoln-Douglas debate at the Sunday tournament.
• Isaac Keller, a junior from Kansas City, Missouri, second debate speaker and octofinalist in Lincoln-Douglas debate at the Sunday tournament; octofinalist in Lincoln-Douglas debate at the Saturday tournament.
• Andre Swai, a freshman from Springfield, Missouri, octofinalist in Lincoln-Douglas debate at the Sunday tournament.
