Bowling Green, Ky. – Western Kentucky University Libraries is partnering with The Human Library Organization to host a Human Library event at Cravens Library on Tuesday, November 12, 2019 from 2pm to 4pm on the second floor of the library.

The Human Library event, which originated in Denmark, allows participants to check out “human books” to read the personal perspectives of their lives. The Human Library® is a learning platform to open dialog where topics are discussed openly between human books and their readers to challenge prejudices, stigmas, and stereotypes.

With 12 human “books” participating, topics include: 

  Army Veteran                        Bipolar Disorder                   Dual Citizen

  A Healing Path                       International Priest               Law Enforcement

  Muslim Culture                       Oldest of Nine                      Small Business Owners

  Surviving Cancer at 28           Weight Loss Surgery             Women in Politics

“We are pleased to host our first Human Library,” said Anthony Paganelli, organizer of the event and library instructor. “Libraries are all about widening individuals’ perspectives and creating critical thinkers, so when we began discussing the concept, the Human Library just seemed to be a natural fit for a program at our University Library.”

There will be five 20-minute sessions with several books to interact with per session, so participants can attend any time between 2 pm and 4 pm.  The event is free, swipeable for students needing credit hours, and open to anyone interested.
