Providing information based on the book he has co - wrote with Dr. Robert Lawson, Socialism Sucks: Two Economists Drink Their Way Through the Unfree World, Dr. Ben Powell will be speaking in Gary Ransdell Hall, room 1047 on Wednesday, November 6, 3:30 p.m.
After touring countries with low levels of economic freedom, Drs. Powell and Lawson wrote this book as a journal of what they learned. Powell will be speaking about the findings on the quality of life in socialist countries that doesn't come close to matching the quality of life offered in advanced capitalist democracies. As it turns out that the choice of economic system a country chooses to pursue really does have a profound influence on the daily lives of ordinary people.
Powell is the director of the Free Market Institute and a professor of economics at the Rawls College of Business Administration at Texas Tech University. He is the author or editor of five books and the author of more than 75 scholarly articles and policy studies. His research findings have been reported in more than 100 popular press outlets, including The Wall Street Journal and The New York Times.
