WKU Regents swear in new member, elect vice chair

Sheldon McKinney of Wallingford is the newest member of the WKU Board of Regents.
McKinney, who is Executive Director of the Kentucky FFA Foundation, was sworn in Friday (Dec. 13) at the board’s quarterly meeting. She was appointed to the board Nov. 22 by then-Gov. Matt Bevin to replace Gillard Johnson of Nicholasville, whose term expired June 30. McKinney’s term expires June 30, 2025.
McKinney has been with the Kentucky FFA Foundation since 2012, has taught high school in Montgomery County and was the assistant coordinator of the Todd Co. Youth Center. She hold degrees from WKU and Murray State University.
Regents elected Jason McKinney of Alvaton as vice chair. He succeeds Freddie Higdon of Lebanon, who became chair when Sheldon McKinney replaced Johnson.
In other business, the Board:
- Approved faculty emeritus appointments for Jianlian Wang, Educational Administration, Leadership and Research; Randy Deere, Kinesiology, Recreation and Sport; Neal Downing, Engineering and Applied Sciences; and Lesa Dill, English.
- Approved a four-year contract with Brent Chumbley as head coach of the men’s and women’s cross country and track programs.
