WKU's Black History Month activities begin Jan. 30

WKU's Black History Month activities begin Jan. 30

WKU will kick off its Black History Month celebrations Thursday (Jan. 30) and activities continue through February with programming led by WKU’s Intercultural Student Engagement Center in partnership with more than 10 campus and community organizations. 

The opening celebration will feature performances from KAIOS student dance team, Major Redz, and the National Pan-Hellenic Council. African American Studies Associate Professor Dr. Andrew Rosa will speak in addition to sophomore Bremonte Carpenter of Nashville. The event will begin at 5 p.m. in Downing Student Union, room 3023.

The community is invited to the Keynote Celebration featuring Grammy-award winning artist Le’Andria Johnson at 6 p.m. Wednesday (Feb. 5) in Van Meter Hall. Tickets are free to WKU students and faculty. Community members can purchase tickets for $10 from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday at the Cynthia and George Nichols III Intercultural Student Engagement Center in Downing Student Union, room 2041.

Other signature events for the month include:

  • Young, Gifted, and Black Mixer on Feb. 21
  • African-American Male Networking Luncheon featuring guest speaker Tyreon Clark on Feb. 25
  • Unity Rally & March with Words of Encouragement by Dr. Takeia Anthony on Feb. 26
