WKU recognizes first cohort of ACUE Teaching Fellows

- Wednesday, February 12th, 2020
Thirty-two WKU faculty members were recognized for earning a nationally recognized teaching credential co-endorsed by the Association of College and University Educators (ACUE) and the American Council on Education (ACE) during a pinning ceremony on February 4.
Provost Cheryl Stevens congratulated the inaugural graduating cohort, which included 32 faculty members from five colleges, all faculty ranks, and over 20 departments. Provost Stevens remarked that the cohort’s completion rate was an impressive 100 percent (while the national completion rate is 83 percent). These 32 faculty demonstrated their commitment to student success by completing the “Effective Teaching Practices” course to equip them with the instructional skills shown to promote student motivation, learning and persistence.
To earn the Certificate in Effective Instruction, faculty members completed an evidence-based, 25-module course that required them to learn about and implement new teaching practices in their courses and reflect on the experience. Aligned with the latest research in cognition and adult learning, the ACUE’s course address over 200 evidence-based teaching practices, covering how to design an effective course, establish a productive learning environment, use active learning techniques, promote higher order thinking, and utilize assessments to inform instruction and promote learning.
Please join the Provost’s Office and the Center for Innovative Teaching & Learning in congratulating the ACUE Teaching Fellows.
