WKU is allowing high school seniors to self-report their GPA to keep the admissions process on track.

“The closing of public schools during the COVID-19 pandemic makes it challenging for some applicants to get the official documentation they need to complete the admissions process,” President Timothy C. Caboni said. “By allowing students to self-report an unofficial GPA, we can grant a conditional admission so they can become part of the WKU class of 2024 now, giving them four months to attain their official transcript.”

Nontraditional students wishing to pursue a WKU degree in response to the current economic climate can also self-report their GPA to begin the admissions process while seeking their official transcripts.

The Office of Student Financial Assistance will use the information to issue estimated scholarship awards. All new first-time freshmen have access to expanded scholarship opportunities announced last fall for those with at least a 3.0 high school GPA.

Students who provide their self-reported GPA will have until Aug. 1, 2020, to provide an official transcript and be fully admitted to WKU. More information is available at https://www.wku.edu/admissions/admit20/gpa.php.

WKU expands transfer scholarships

WKU is expanding transfer scholarship awards for students interested in completing their degrees at WKU.

Beginning with the fall 2020 semester, students who have earned at least 24 hours from a regionally accredited institution are eligible for scholarships of up to $4,000 per year based on their grade-point average. Students with a 3.8 GPA or higher will earn $4,000. Those with a 3.5 to 3.79 GPA will receive $3,000 and those with a 3.0 to 3.49 GPA will get $1,500.

Students must maintain a 2.5 GPA at WKU.

The new model significantly increases the base scholarship awards, which had been $1,500-$2,500.

“The economic situation created by the COVID-19 pandemic is causing many students explore options closer to home or look for institutions that provide higher value and return on investment,” President Caboni said. “These changes in our transfer scholarship program increase access and make it more affordable for students to finish a degree at WKU while rewarding demonstrated academic achievement.”
