IRS "Get Transcript By Mail" Option is Not Available

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the IRS website option to “Get Transcript by Mail” is not currently available. At this time, the government does not know when this option will be functioning again.
However, for Verification purposes, students or parents can still submit tax return documentation by using one of the three options below:
- The IRS website option to “Get Transcript Online” is still functioning and is available for tax filers who successfully answer the security questions. This option provides an immediate PDF version of the Tax Return Transcript, which can be saved and securely uploaded to the student’s KHEAA Verify account.
- The IRS Data Retrieval Tool is still available when submitting or correcting the online FAFSA application. Guidance is available at https://studentaid.gov/2021/help/how-irs-drt-work.
- A signed copy of the *federal income tax return can be submitted to KHEAA Verify. Per the Department of Education, the tax return must be hand-signed by the tax filer (see the “Sign Here” designation).
*for 2019-2020: submit Form 1040, 1040A, or 1040EZ from 2017 tax documents
*for 2020-2021: submit Form 1040 plus corresponding federal tax schedules from 2018 tax documents
*for 2020-2021: submit Form 1040 plus corresponding federal tax schedules from 2018 tax documents
