2020 National Heritage Fellowship Awarded to Mino-giizhig (Wayne Valliere)
We are delighted to announce the awarding of a 2020 National Heritage Fellowship to Mino-giizhig (Wayne Valliere), a longterm collaborator of WKU Folk Studies’ own Tim Frandy. Valliere, an Anishinaabe artist from Waaswaaganing (Lac du Flambeau, Wisconsin), is a versatile artist, a birchbark canoe builder, and an Ojibwe language and culture teacher. The National Heritage Fellowship is awarded by the National Endowment of the Arts and is the nation’s highest honor in folk and traditional arts. Congratulations, Wayne!
