FDA Issues Additional Warning for Hand Sanitizers

Today's feature is an update on our June 23, 2020 article announcing the FDA’s warning not to use hand sanitizer manufactured by Eskbiochem because of the toxic ingredient methanol.
On July 2, 2020 the FDA issued an update to previous warnings about methanol contaminants in certain brands of hand sanitizers offered for sale in United States markets. In this update, it cautions consumers that the products are labeled to contain ethanol (also known as ethyl alcohol), but when tested is shown to be contaminated with methanol (wood alcohol). Methanol is known to be toxic when absorbed through the skin or ingested, and can be life-threatening if ingested.
Among the products affected by this warning are hand sanitizers manufactured by:
- 4E Global SAPl de CV (Mexico)
- AAA Cosmetica (Mexico)
- DDI Miltinational SA de CV (Mexico)
These products join the previously-warned Eskbiochem SA de CV (Mexico) and others on the FDA list of products that are either contaminated with methanol or contain methanol as labeled, and need to be removed from use.
