WKU senior Jordan Cummings, an accounting major from Bowling Green, has been named a PCAOB Scholar for the 2020-2021 academic year and will receive a $10,000 scholarship from the Public Company Accounting Oversight Board.
Cummings is among 234 students nationwide recognized by the PCAOB Scholars Program, which aims to benefit outstanding students who are likely to become accountants and auditors. PCAOB Scholars are nominated by their educational institution, and participating educational institutions select their nominees from students enrolled in their accounting degree programs.
“The WKU accounting faculty strives to nominate an accounting student enrolled in the JUMP program because financial aid options decrease significantly for graduate students,” Cummings said. “I was informed that I specifically was selected because I have a good academic record, a high regard for ethics, and a desire to work in public accounting and I am enrolled in the JUMP program, pursuing my Master of Accountancy. It was humbling to know that I came to mind when the accounting faculty considered these qualities.
“I was beyond honored to receive this scholarship for other reasons as well. First, it is extremely gratifying to know that I am pursuing a degree in a field of study that is so dedicated to investing in the accountants of tomorrow, and I know I am beyond fortunate to be on the receiving end of that investment. Receiving this scholarship will also enable me to substantially cover the cost of graduate school and allow me to shift my focus from paying for school to studying for the CPA exam. Overall, it is an honor to be a recipient of this scholarship, and receiving it means I can focus on achieving my academic and professional goals without having to worry about the financial implications.”
