BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – WHAS Crusade for Children this month announced a $22,000 donation to the WKU College of Education and Behavioral Sciences. The grant will support graduate and undergraduate students who are interested in careers educating children with disabilities.

$22,000 grant will support WKU students with career tracks in special education

“We are incredibly appreciative of WHAS Crusade for Children’s continued support of our work,” Corinne Murphy, Dean of the College of Education and Behavioral Sciences said. “This tuition support benefits students and professionals seeking careers in supporting individuals with behavior disorders. With the exceptionally challenging year we have all experienced, these funds make a great difference in supporting the professional trajectories of our WKU students as they prepare to work in our regional school districts.”

The organization is a continued supporter of WKU’s SPED program and helps highly qualified students reach new career heights. The partnership has existed since 2015, and each year, donations from WHAS Crusade for Children have ranged from $18,000 to $25,000.

In light of COVID 19, WHAS even completed an additional fundraiser to secure appropriate funding for the 2020-2021 year. Due to these efforts, WHAS will donate $4,800,000 in the form of more than 200 grants – all collected proceeds will benefit children with special needs throughout Kentuckiana.

WKU SPED prepares students for jobs in grades P-12 or grades P-5. At the graduate level, students may elect a Master of Arts in Education in either Learning and Behavior Disorders P-12, or Moderate and Severe Disabilities P-12. Those with interest in the program may visit the included link to learn more: https://www.wku.edu/ste/sped/.
