Flu Shots
- Monday, October 19th, 2020
Dear Colleagues,
As we continue to monitor COVID-19 cases on campus and work to mitigate its spread, I want to thank you again for your support of WKU’s Healthy on the Hill operations this fall. We continue to experience a small number of new cases weekly, and we know this success comes directly from your persistent efforts to create an environment that minimizes the opportunities for spread.
I understand the stress and additional effort due to rethinking and restructuring everything we do as an institution in response to the virus. From pedagogical and modality changes to building new ways to engage prospective students; from restructuring how we advise to innovating in the ways in which we engage donors; you have done extraordinary work since the onset of this pandemic to ensure we continue to meet our mission.
As we head into the last month before the Thanksgiving break, it is more important than ever before for you to get a flu shot. Because many symptoms of influenza and COVID-19 overlap, coupled with concerns over individuals simultaneously fighting both illnesses, WKU strongly encourages our faculty, staff and students to take this precautionary measure.
Now, we have made it even easier for you.
In partnership with Graves Gilbert Clinic, WKU will offer influenza vaccinations for faculty, staff, students and their family members who are 18 years of age or older (pediatrician consultation is recommended for patients under 18). Additionally, for employees and spouses/partners who participate in the WKU Health Plan, an influenza vaccination is a rewardable wellness activity. While most insurance plans include coverage for influenza vaccines, for students or part-time employees not covered by insurance, the immunizations will be provided at no charge. Please bring your WKU ID and insurance card to the immunization site of your choice.
Drive-through immunizations are available until October 31st at either the GGC main location at 201 Park Street or at the Family Care Center located at 2724 Nashville Road Monday–Friday from 8:30 am - 4:30 pm.
Walk-in immunizations are available at the WKU GGC Clinic during normal operating hours Monday – Thursday from 8:00 am - 6:00 am and Friday 8:00 am - 4:30 pm or at the Nashville Road location 7 days/week from 7:30 am - 7:30 pm.
In addition, WKU has worked to offer walk-up immunizations on the following days and locations:
· Tuesday, October 27; near Centennial Mall; 1:00 pm – 4:00 pm
· Wednesday, October 28; Potter College Fall Festival near Cherry Hall; 1:00 pm – 4:00 pm
· Thursday, October 29; near the Hardin Planetarium; 1:00 pm – 4:00 pm
Thank you again for ensuring we continue to keep COVID-19 case numbers low on our campus. As we finish the next five weeks before Thanksgiving break, please make an extra effort to check in on your students and colleagues. The cumulative effect of the pandemic and the resultant changes to our world and our work will continue to take its toll on each of us. Please take care of yourself and those around you as we navigate the remainder of the semester.
Best,
Timothy C. Caboni
