WKU sustainability efforts earn global recognition

WKU’s sustainability efforts have earned recognition again in the University of Indonesia GreenMetric World University Rankings.
In the overall 2020 rankings, WKU was recognized as the 385th World’s Most Sustainable University out of 912 universities from 84 countries. WKU ranked 15th out of 33 U.S. universities invited to participate.
“Our repeated UI GreenMetric World University Ranking reflects our continued dedication to sustainability at WKU,” said Dr. Leslie North, Director of Sustainability for WKU. “Additionally, the diversity of individual metrics we are evaluated on is reflective of the breadth of sustainability initiatives and practices we pursue here. We have been recognized for practices not only related to facilities management, but also education and supporting the of health and well-being of campus occupants. We plan to use this evaluation system to identify areas of future sustainability growth and expansion.”
UI GreenMetric World University Rankings, an initiative of the University of Indonesia, is an annual publication that ranks universities around the world based on their commitment and actions toward sustainability. The rankings look at six indicators of each university (setting and infrastructure, energy and climate change, waste, water, transportation and education).
In the 2019 UI GreenMetric World University Rankings, WKU was recognized as 284th out of 780 universities from 85 countries that participated.
WKU has earned national recognition and certifications in recent years as part of the AASHE STARS (Association for the Advancement of Sustainability in Higher Education Sustainability Tracking, Assessment, and Rating System), Tree Campus USA, U.S. Department of Education Green Ribbon Schools and more.
