Elise Wilham Spotlight
- Monday, March 2nd, 2020
Elise Wilham (MHC '20) is tap dancing her way into graduation (and through her Capstone Experience/Thesis project).
Originally from Louisville, Elise's passion for dance began early and has evolved into a portrait of diligence, discipline, and creativity. Her CE/T project, "Creativity through Choreography and Social Media: A Study of the Contemporary Influences in Tap Dance," explores the female impact on contemporary tap dance and how social media aides in the persistence of the art form. She began her research with a FUSE Grant that took her the Big Apple Tap Festival in New York City. That grant also allowed her to perform a contemporary tap dance choreographed by a WKU alumna, and lead a production of her own original tap dance choreography.
Her research is now taking the form of studying profiles from popular tap dance social media sources. Elise is working to discover patterns in various social content and to produce her own content to create a "movement diary". Elise's CE/T project illustrates a narrative that is both creatively and academically driven.
