The Center for Gifted Studies at WKU is pleased to announce that it will host the Advanced Placement (AP) Summer Institute (APSI), in partnership with the College Board.
Held nationwide at more than 160 partner colleges and universities, AP Summer Institutes offer the most thorough professional learning available for AP educators. Attendees engage in more than 30 hours of content-rich training designed to strengthen how they teach their AP courses.
“Staff at The Center for Gifted Studies are proud to continue the tradition of hosting the WKU Advanced Placement Summer Institute,” said Dr. Julia Link Roberts, Executive Director of The Center for Gifted Studies. “The outstanding consultants prepare participating teachers with best practices and rich resources and develop a network of support.”
The Advanced Placement Summer Institute at WKU is the longest-running AP Institute in Kentucky and has been offered annually since 1984. This summer, the APSI at WKU offers 35 one-week workshops for beginning and experienced teachers in content areas from biology to world history. The workshops will be offered during three one-week institutes held June 21-25, June 28-July 2, and July 19-23. A full schedule of workshops offered and registration links can be found at wku.edu/gifted/ap.
“For over 30 years, the AP Summer Institute has provided dedicated AP teachers with intense training and educational collaboration,” said Trevor Packer, Head of the AP Program. “APSI helps to ensure that students will receive the challenging instruction they need to prepare for college success.”
Research shows that AP students are better prepared for college. They are more likely to enroll in college, stay in college, do well in their classes, and graduate on time in four years. Following challenging coursework, success on AP Exams helps students save money on college tuition and potentially graduate with less student debt over the course of their education.
