Global Learning & International Affairs (GLIA) is kicking off a new initiative this semester called the Global Learning Forum (GLF). The GLF is a series of virtual events that engage the WKU community, whether you are in Bowling Green or across the globe. It will revolve around global topics through panel discussions, podcasts and presentations that celebrate and explore cultural diversity and global issues. GLF events are a collaboration between WKU students, staff, faculty and colleagues from around the world.

Please join GLIA in the Global Learning Forum as we virtually navigate and discuss the world we live in.  Here are a few upcoming events for your calendar:

• Global Learning Through Global Literature | February 15 at 5 p.m. – A panel of WKU students, moderated by Dr. Ted Hovet, who will examine how literature bridges cultural differences while also revealing cultural distinctions. The panel will feature original student research on novels by authors from Africa, Iran, and the United States with special attention to issues of race, gender, adolescence, and identity in a global context.
• Global Travel in a Global Pandemic | February 23 at noon – GLIA, in conjunction with Dr. Holly Carter at Harlaxton College, will provide an up-to-date presentation of safe international travel during and after COVID-19.  GLIA will also discuss the travel appeal process at WKU and respond to questions from students, faculty, and staff about international travel.
• COVID-19: What the USA can learn from Africa | March 8 at noon – The African Student Association, in collaboration with Dr. Grace Lartey from the Department of Public Health and Dr. Godfred Takyi from the University of Ghana, will discuss Public Health on the African continent, focusing on the management of COVID-19.
• Window to the World | March 15 at 5 p.m. -- This series gives WKU International students an opportunity to showcase and celebrate their culture through presentations and conversations. This session will feature students from the Bahamas, Burkina Faso, Democratic Republic of Congo, Nigeria, Colombia and Spain. Join us on a journey across the world as we open a Window to the World.

In April, GLIA will partner with WKU campus sustainability experts and colleagues to host two events to explore sustainability in the context of climate change, student mobility and food-related sustainable practices. 

The African Student Association continues its “The Africa We Want” conversation with two sessions. One session will discuss reverse immigration and the other one will be an honest observation of what the United States can learn from Africa on political polarization.
