WKU is once again recognized as a Military Friendly® School by Victory Media, the field’s most comprehensive database for career training, education and family resources.

Each year the WKU Military Student Services office completes a propriety survey which measures student success and assesses WKU’s military friendly programs and policies. Institutions earning the Military Friendly® School designation are then evaluated using both public data sources and responses from the Victoria Media survey. Once compiled, the information is then vetted and compared to other similar programs across the nation. WKU has proudly achieved this classification consecutively since 2009.

“Our military connected students are not just a number - we go above and beyond to provide the personalized service they deserve, to meet them where they are in their unique circumstances and to help them in any way that we can,” Director of Military Student Services Kent Johnson said. “WKU has a culture of military friendliness and a student-centered mindset that goes beyond policies and programs. We see it the most when we see our faculty and staff working one on one with our military students, ensuring they have what they need to reach their educational goals and have access to the benefits to get them there.”

The Textbooks For Troops program, founded in 2011, has helped hundreds of military-connected students gain access to textbooks each semester. Since its inception, Textbook for Troops has granted more than 3,500 students the necessary materials needed for proper schooling. Books are shipped nationwide and around the world to aid WKU students who are veterans, as well as military students and their dependents.

Additionally, WKU Military Student Services provides other services, including support and guidance with tuition assistance requests for all branches of the military; and a Veteran Resource Center, a dedicated space for military, veterans and dependents.

WKU also offers unique services to its military students; a discounted tuition rate of $250 per credit hour to all active duty, reserve, and National Guard members. This offering is also available for graduate student use.

“This award is simply an extension of WKU’s imbedded student centric model and culture,” Professor of Military Science, Lieutenant Colonel Morgan Greene said. “It is our hope that this announcement will draw service members of all types to our Hill, whether that be as a graduate student, Kentucky National Guard Soldier, ROTC Cadet, or discharged Soldier pursuing an undergraduate degree.”
