- Monday, March 8th, 2021
Press Release:
POTTER COLLEGE ALUMNI SPEAKER SERIES WELCOMES MATT LOVE PRESENTING “CURIOUSITY, EMPATHY, AND DESIGN.”
On March 15th at 5:30pm, the Potter College Alumni Speaker Series will host alumnus Matt Love for a virtual keynote talk titled “Curiosity, Empathy, and Design.” Matt graduated from WKU in 2013 with a BFA in Graphic Design. He designs and develops digital experiences for museums, universities, and cultural institutions, drawing from a breadth of creative and technical knowledge to create tech rooted in simplicity and empathy. Matt is the co-owner of Metaphysic.
Matt’s work brings together fields that will be of interest to many – the arts, design, and humanities, including museum studies and interactive exhibition design, as well as computer science, business, and technology. One of his projects included work on a reflective storytelling video interactive for the National September 11 Memorial & Museum. During the keynote, Matt will discuss his WKU experience and varied post-university paths, which he describes as a zigging and zagging, all underpinned with a philosophy of maintaining curiosity. He will also speak about this all coming together, like parts of a puzzle, through his work with museums and other institutions.
"While there aren't any blueprints to follow, I let curiosity drive my freelance path. This allowed me to sample many jobs, solve interesting problems, and meet incredible people doing beautiful work," said Matt. He will finish his talk with a discussion of why the inclusion of Empathy, in every aspect of the work, is so important today in design and beyond.
The Potter College Alumni Speaker Series celebrates the accomplishments and diverse paths our alumni have taken, while advising current students on career options and networking opportunities. The mission of Potter College is to help students expand the range of their opportunities by providing them with a broad education that will prepare them for meaningful work in an almost limitless number of careers across a lifetime.
