New Scholarship Opportunity for WKU EST Alumni
- Thursday, March 18th, 2021
The English Department has two part-time graduate assistantships specially designed for current EST teachers who completed their initial certification program at WKU and would like to earn the Masters in English to achieve rank. Part-time graduate assistants will receive funding for up to two classes, or 6 hours, and receive a small stipend for working a maximum of 10 hours per week for the department during the fall and spring semester. The work is designed around the K-12 teacher’s schedule. Primarily, graduate assistants will work with a faculty member teaching composition, literature, or ESL in an evening on online course. Assistants may create course materials, provide a unit of instruction, or offer additional support in office hours. Assistants will use their EST experience to support WKU students who may be underprepared for college and/or work with undergraduate EST majors to connect their course content and future classrooms. Assistants may also be asked to work in the Writing Center as a tutor. The second task is to help promote the MA in English for other EST teachers who wish to achieve rank. Assistants should have experience with or interest in networking, promotion, and social media. If interested, please note the following:
- Applications for the part-time assistantship are due by April 1
- Assistants will begin their appointment in Fall 2021
- Applications are contingent on acceptance into the MA in English program at WKU
- Applicant must be eligible for the educator graduate tuition discount to qualify
- Assistantships are awarded for one year and may be renewed annually contingent on funding availability and candidate reapplication
