Members of the WKU Habitat for Humanity Campus Chapter will be starting their summer break in Decatur, Alabama.

The WKU group will be working with the Morgan County Habitat for Humanity Affiliate on a construction site and at the ReStore facility.

The May 2-8 trip is the first for the WKU chapter since spring break in March 2020 when chapter members were in Decatur and WKU announced COVID-19 changes.

“We are all definitely excited to build again,” Chapter Co-President Mia Sword said. “I think people understand that this trip couldn’t occur otherwise unless we enforce strict policies. For us to be able to go on trips in the future, we have to set a good example now.”

Members of the WKU group will be following COVID-19 safety protocols, including wearing masks, washing hands frequently and not sharing equipment. 

Chapter members participating in the trip include advisor Bryan Reaka, faculty member in WKU’s School of Engineering and Applied Sciences; Emily Buckley of Elizabethtown, a freshman Social Work major; Ivy Kadisak of Woodridge, Illinois, a junior Sociology major and Nonprofit Administration minor; Jazemen Xaysana of Bowling Green, a sophomore Interior Design major; Mia Sword of Lexington, a junior Mathematics and Business Data Analytics major; and Keilen Frazier of Louisville, a sophomore Photojournalism and Public Relations major.
