Terrance D. Brown will be the new Dean of Potter College of Arts & Letters at WKU beginning July 1.
Dr. Brown is currently the Founding Executive Director of the School of the Arts at the University of North Alabama in Florence where he provides vision and leadership for the Department of Music, Department of Visual Arts and Design and the Cinematic Arts and Theatre Program.
“Dr. Brown has proven his leadership abilities and we are excited to see him apply those skills in guiding Potter College and working with our other academic leaders as we continue our progress toward the goals set in our comprehensive plan,” WKU President Timothy C. Caboni said. “He understands what it means to be student-centered and how to help students succeed.”
Provost Cheryl Stevens said, “We are thrilled to welcome Dr. Brown to WKU as the next Potter College Dean. He brings a wealth of leadership experience and an entrepreneurial spirit that will serve us well in his new role. In addition, as musicians, he and his wife, Tiffany, add considerable talent to our awesome performance capabilities.”
Dr. Brown said WKU’s rich history and culture were a part of the attraction to the Hill.
“The guiding principle for the institution continues to be built upon student-centered learning,” he said. “My role as Dean will be to promote a culture of student success and to support faculty and staff to provide instructional innovation through traditional, experiential and distance learning platforms. The opportunity to build upon the great work of WKU’s predecessors and to serve the faculty, staff and students in PCAL is the reason my family and I chose to become members of the Hilltopper family.”
Dr. Brown began his career at North Alabama as a faculty member in 2010, becoming chair of the Music Department in 2015 and Founding Executive Director in 2018.
He was a voice instructor at Dillard University in New Orleans. He is the founder and president of the Walk With Me Foundation in Florence and the owner/operator of TB Design as a furniture designer and builder.
He has doctor of musical arts and master of music degrees from Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge and a bachelor of music from Samford University in Homewood, Alabama.
Dr. Brown succeeds Larry Snyder who is retiring June 30.
