Welcome Back - Fall 2021!
- Thursday, September 9th, 2021
Greetings Campus Community!
We hope everyone had a good start to the Fall 2021 semester. As the campus community gets back in the swing of things, it is imperative we keep inclusivity at the center of all we do; after all, a sense of belonging is key to an effective and successful institution. Over the last couple of years, we’ve made significant progress in promoting honest conversations about diversity, equity, and inclusivity on our campus. Our goal for this academic year is to continue that momentum and begin to create an infrastructure rooted in the notion that We Are One WKU.
We spent the summer working on some behind-the-scenes DEI projects like analyzing the Campus Culture Survey, rebuilding the DEI website, updating the Campus PRIDE Index, and working with the KY Council on Post-secondary Education on a Cultural Competence Certificate for students and employees at public universities in the state. In addition, WKU will be hosting the 2021 Higher EDquity Symposium, sponsored by the Council on Post-secondary Education, November 16 & 17. The call for proposals will be coming soon, so if you have some DEI work/projects/research you’d like to present, this is an excellent opportunity! The Symposium is open to students, faculty, and staff. More info to come!
If you haven’t had a chance to browse through the new “DEI” and “Diversity” websites, we encourage you to take a look around. The “DEI” website houses pertinent information like reports, calendars, and resources geared toward current faculty, staff, and students. The “Diversity” website shines a light on the profile of WKU and is a perfect landing page for those interested in WKU and members of the community.
As always, reach out if you have questions, ideas, or inspirations!
