Jocelyn Porter Spotlight
- Sunday, October 10th, 2021
Jocelyn Porter’s (MHC ‘18) path took an unexpected, but pleasant turn when she was studying abroad in Denmark: “I thought I was going to do broadcast journalism. When I studied abroad, I learned that I loved telling the story, but I also got really interested in the underlying issues.” After her change in big dreams, Jocelyn attended Indiana University Maurer School of Law-Bloomington, and graduated in 2021 with her Juris Doctorate (JD).
Jocelyn has enjoyed working in the law field, and especially in her current position. “I love seeing how the law can develop and the arguments you make for your clients can really matter. Even if you don’t win, the law could change or that argument is made a step further that didn’t in the past.”
Jocelyn advises MHC scholars “to first, be flexible, and if something is not working right, try something new. I came into WKU majoring in broadcast journalism and I swore I was going to be a reporter on the news. But I went to law school, and now I’m working for a judge and pursuing this career. Another piece of advice is that you have to be willing to learn from your peers and other people around you and just take advantage of weird experiences. Lastly, give yourself a break.”
