Biography

Dr. Shane Spiller is a professor of management. He started at WKU in 2006, and was promoted to full professor in 2018.  A native of Florence, Alabama, he completed his Ph.D at the University of Alabama. His teaching areas span a wide array of leadership and management areas, most often extending to the area of critical thinking, strategic management and ethics. He has won teaching awards at three universities, including WKU’s MBA teaching award and the Beta Gamma Sigma Professor of the Year, and was the GFCB’s first Hays Watkins Teaching Fellow.

His research interests include decision-making, leadership, and ethics with numerous articles published in a wide range of academic journals including the Journal of Business Ethics, the Journal of Management Issues, and the Journal of Small Business Strategy.

Dr. Spiller does volunteer and consulting work with many organizations in banking, healthcare, sporting goods, and home services. Additionally, he co-founded and managed a non-profit organization that has provided services to countless children in the region.

He has served on college strategic leadership committees at three AACSB accredited business schools, and led two successful Gordon Ford College of Business accreditation efforts, in addition to serving on the WKU Leadership Steering Committee, and helping to develop the Ed.D.

Dr. Spiller’s wife, Angela Williams Spiller teaches part-time for WKU, his son Eric is a WKU alum living in Bowling Green, and his daughter Ashley is pursuing graduate studies at the University of Alabama.  His term on the Board ends October 2023.
