WKU Sisterhood Member Spotlight: Linda Lu Jones ('85)
Hometown: I was born in Campbellsville, Ky., where my Dad was on faculty at Campbellsville College. We moved to Bowling Green in 1968 when my Dad was hired as an Associate Professor of Physical Education at WKU.
Current City: Louisville, Ky., since 1986.
When did you attend WKU? August 1981 through May 1985
Do you have a favorite memory from the Hill? Cafeteriology at DUC, fraternity parties, Biscuits & Gravy and strong coffee at DUC Grill.
What activities were you involved with as a student? Along with your Sisterhood membership, have you been involved in other WKU activities as an alumna? I was mostly involved in ADPi Sorority during college. I continue to be involved in ADPi Alumnae in Louisville. No other major alumni activities at WKU. I recently started a College Heights Foundation scholarship fund for Agriculture students in my grandparents’ names, William Otho and Tessie Gresham Shepherd. Eventually my portion of the proceeds from the sale of their farm will be invested in a Charitable Gift Annuity then added to the scholarship fund upon my death.
Is there a Sisterhood moment that stands out to you or made an impact? When I agreed to join the Sisterhood, I planned to stick with it. It feels good to keep that promise and make that donation every year.
Tell us about your family: My Dad was a professor at WKU and my Mom taught first grade at McNeill Elementary in Bowling Green. Mother also periodically taught education courses at WKU as an adjunct. Both parents are dead. I have a twin brother, Rob, and younger sister, Suzanne. My elder brother died a few years ago. I live in the Highlands with my significant other of 17 years, Charlie Ball.
Do you have any passion projects other than the Sisterhood? My passion is volunteering for the Democratic Party and Democratic candidates. I’m very active with Postcards to Voters and am on track to reach my goal of 10,000 postcards this year. (I’ll never do that again.)
If you work, what do you do? I just celebrated 25 years at Vocational Economics, Inc., a Louisville-based litigation consulting firm. I’m a Vocational-Economic Analyst there. I prepare vocational-economic assessments and testify either in depositions or court regarding my opinions. I plan to semi-retire in 2024.
Fun facts about yourself: I’m a twin. Also, since I never had children, I got three master’s degrees at the University of Louisville and University of Kentucky instead. 😉😜
