WKU Sisterhood Spotlight: Kathleen Overton ('95)

Kathleen Overton ('95)

Hometown: Owensboro, KY

Current City: Smiths Grove, KY

When did you attend WKU? 1987-1995

What activities were you involved in as a student? I was a Kappa Delta and worked for the Herald selling advertising to local businesses.

Do you have a favorite memory from the Hill? There are so many memories such as the cloud of Aquanet hairspray from my freshman year floormates in the non-air conditioned 3rd floor of South Hall, to hanging out with my sorority sisters at the fraternity houses, to selling advertising for the Herald to local businesses, and continuing to be involved at WKU and physically being on the Hill to enjoy events and sports.

If you work, what do you do? That’s a loaded question. I own Prim & Brim, a seasonal KY Derby store in Bowling Green, which always fills my soul with joy. I also own Bruckner Strategies and am a brand consultant primarily assisting a regional hospital with their marketing efforts. In my spare time, I work with Codarus where I rep high-end rugs, linens and bedding to designers and stores in Kentucky, Tennessee and West Virginia.

Tell us about your family: I am the luckiest gal! My parents and brother have been my solid foundation and recently moved from Owensboro to live near me in Smiths Grove. Because of their positive example, I have been able to fully appreciate my partner Oscar and 18-year-old stepson Caden for the past 11 years. We now live on 11 acres and enjoy “farm” living and socializing with friends. We laugh. And laugh. And laugh.

Do you have any passion projects, other than WKU Sisterhood? As the chairwoman of the Sisterhood, this is my current passion. Beyond that, I enjoy surrounding myself with women and helping them in any way possible, whether it’s fundraising or just making someone feel better about themselves. I truly enjoy mentoring young WKU women. I hire interns and try to instill practical life lessons as well as career direction as they learn about marketing in the real world.

Fun fact about yourself: I fall down a lot! I shuffle my feet too much, so I trip and faceplant all the time. I’ve broken my ankle and fell down a cliff once and had to be rescued by a response team. Two additional facts…I’m 50% Hungarian and I know how to drive a tractor. It’s one of my favorite things to do in the summer!
