WKU Sisterhood Spotlight: Melinda Rue ('79)

Melinda Rue ('79)

Hometown: My hometown is Rome, Ga.

Current City: I live in Atlanta, Ga.

When did you attend WKU? I attended WKU from 1975-1979.

What activities were you involved with as a student? I was involved with my sorority, Chi Omega, where I served as President. As alumni, my husband and I have served on the WKU Parents Association. I was also honored to serve on the WKU Alumni Association Board of Directors.

Do you have a favorite memory from the Hill? I have so many wonderful memories from my time on the Hill!  I enjoyed my classes and student teaching. I loved participating in activities with Chi O such as Spring Sing and intramural sports. I still have several very close friends that I met at WKU ~ especially Betty Thompson McGuire! I also met my husband of 44 years at WKU!

Is there a Sisterhood moment that stands out to you or made an impact? I am new to the Sisterhood, so I haven’t had a chance to make any memories yet. I do love the purpose of our organization!

If you work, what do you do? I am a retired elementary teacher. I currently spend lots of time helping care for our grandchildren.

Tell us about your family: I have been married to Jon (whom I met at WKU) for 44 years. We have four children and seven grandchildren. Our oldest daughter, Julianna, is married to Spencer Cagle. They have four children: 7-year-old twins, Carter and Davis; 5-year-old Will; and a 6-month-old daughter, Brighton. Our second daughter is Elizabeth. Our third child, Jonathan, is married to Amanda. They have two sons: 3-year-old Jackson, and 1-year-old Harrison. Our youngest son is married to Kelly, and they have newborn, Charlie.

Do you have any passion projects other than the WKU Sisterhood? I am passionate about our church, Peachtree Presbyterian Church, where I serve as an elder and a MOPS (Mothers of Pre-Schoolers) mentor mom. I have also enjoyed going on mission trips to Mexico and India.

Fun fact about yourself: I can say the alphabet backwards!
