Craig

Benjamin Craig '14

Benjamin Craig played football at WKU, studied Criminology and Sociology, and invested in his new home community of Bowling Green.  He began his career by participating in the WKU Police Explorer program in 2007-2008.  He was hired on as a WKU Police Officer in April 2008 and then later promoted to Corporal and Sergeant.  By working at the University and playing football, he was able to obtain a degree, which he finished in 2014.  Then, to further his career, he pursued work with the Bowling Green Police Department, where he was hired in 2016.  He is a Master Police Officer and has worked in his current department for 2.5 years, where he is assigned the night shift, doing patrol.  He loves working for the BGPD because of his colleagues.  “Knowing they are there for support and they are there to learn from makes it a great place to grow.”

Thinking back to his experience at WKU, he remarks, “The thing I remember the most about the Sociology Department is the discussions with the professors.  There was so much open dialogue and we could talk about anything. It was also fun for me to hear other people’s perspectives on certain issues. Another memory is that in between classes I would have random conversations with other students who seemed to be interested in some of the same things as me.”  For those students coming behind him, he advises, “Pursue your field in the community that you love and enjoy, just like I did, even though I am not originally from here.  And whatever career you choose, pick something you enjoy!”
