Research Opportunities
I am interested in independent research at WKU. How do I go about it?
There is a complete list of biotechnology-related faculty members here. If you want to know about their specific research areas, click on their names and find their individual websites or link to the correct department on the right. Which research topics are you interested in? Contact faculty members via email to request an appointment and inquire about research opportunities. Faculty members are generally eager to find new undergraduates for their research labs!
There are opportunities for research funding at WKU, such as the FUSE grant and research fellowships. Such opportunities should be discussed with your chosen
research advisor, as they will require research proposals for application. These look
great on resumes!
There is a list of other biology research opportunities here.
Just a reminder: for the molecular biotechnology major, students must either complete an independent research project (BIOL 399) or an internship with a biotech company or other research institution (BIOL 369).
