My research interests are in the area of trauma and posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD). Broadly stated, my research examines factors associated with the etiology, maintenance, and treatment of PTSD. I have examined a variety of topics within this area, but I am especially interested in the relationship between interpersonal processes and PTSD, including the role of social support. My research has examined how lack of support from others exacerbates PTSD symptoms, as well as how relationships may be negatively affected following trauma exposure, especially in survivors of interpersonal violence. My research also examines the relationship between PTSD and other trauma-related mental health issues such as depression, anxiety, and substance use. I utilize both experimental and non-experimental designs to further this line of research. I have worked with variety of trauma groups, including veterans, survivors of motor vehicle accidents, and survivors of intimate partner violence.
