College of Education and Behavioral Sciences Course Fee

Investing in Student Success

CEBS Course Fee Updates.

To better support students and enhance academic advising, the College of Education and Behavioral Sciences (CEBS) is updating its course fee structure. These changes are designed to improve student services and ensure fees are used to directly benefit student success.

✔ Simplified and Predictable Costs
✔ Improved Academic Advising
✔ Stronger Student Support Services

Why Are Course Fees Changing?

A key advantage of this new course fee structure is its simplicity. Instead of a complex system of varying fees across different courses, all CEBS students will pay a standard $15 per credit hour fee. This approach provides:

  • Transparency: Students can more easily understand and anticipate their total costs each semester.
  • Fairness: The cost is distributed evenly among all students, ensuring access to essential resources without disproportionately impacting certain courses.
  • Consistency: With a uniform fee, students can budget more effectively, avoiding unexpected charges for specific courses.

CEBS is committed to providing students with the best academic and career support possible. Currently, some departments have a student-to-faculty-advisor ratio of 100:1, making it difficult for students to receive personalized guidance. The new course fee structure will allow for the hiring of two professional advisors, reducing this ratio and providing:

  • More direct access to academic and career advising.
  • Better guidance on course enrollment to help students graduate on time.
  • Increased support for licensure and accreditation programs.

This new fee structure also provides CEBS with greater flexibility in allocating funds to meet student needs as they evolve. The additional revenue allows the college to address critical areas of student support, such as:

  • Expanding advising services to improve student success and retention.
  • Supporting licensure programs that require specific supervision and accreditation costs.
  • Maintaining and enhancing student support programs, tutoring services, and career development resources.
  • Ensuring CEBS can quickly adapt to emerging student needs, technology updates, and evolving accreditation requirements.

Why This Matters for Students

This change is designed to help students graduate more efficiently by ensuring they receive the guidance they need when selecting courses. Stronger advising and supervision will lead to:

  • Fewer unnecessary credit hours taken.
  • Reduced time to graduation.
  • Increased support for students in licensure programs.

These fees reflect a long-term investment in student success and academic support, ensuring CEBS students receive the resources they need to thrive.

What Is the New Course Fee Structure?

The current course fees will be replaced with a college-wide fee assessed at $15 per credit hour for all undergraduate and graduate courses below the 700 level.
